I'm climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in October to raise money for cancer and want to make sure the trip is successful!
Any tips or advice regarding it?
Go slowly even if you feel like going fast, take ear plugs to sleep at night, careful of sunburn take a hat that protects your ears and neck, remember to look back and see how far you have come rather than how far you have to go..... have a blast and good luck! over 1 year agoAnswered by David
Take Diamox, eat and drink every 20 minutes on the summit night/day, and take another 1/2 Diamox if you experience symptoms of altitude. Do not take ginger gravol or any kind of gravol (you will fall asleep).
*Very special to go to summit in the daytime. Hard to keep water from freezing during nighttime summit.
*Tip well. Those guys well deserve it.
*Second to above. Go slow. You will see people being strong armed down (no helicopter rescue there) and may talk to or hear about people/groups that didn't make it. You will do it if you follow above instructions.
*Bring an umbrella (porters will whip one out if there is a downpour). over 1 year agoAnswered by Nadine Baumann
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for beginner climber or old age person, consider below health Mountaineering travel tips
Choosing Kilimanjaro route and duration, actually consider choosing Kilimanjaro trail with better options to acclimatize such as Machame, Lemosho and Rongai. For Machame and Rongai, take 7 days trip so that you have enough time to acclimatize especially day before you summit, you must rest at Kibo hut or Karanga valley
Go to Mount Kilimanjaro area in a Non rain season, best time to climb Kilimanjaro mountain is July to September and January - February
Trekking pose, hike slowly slowly, this will provide your lungs time to breath and hence get enough oxygen
Tour Operator which you book your trip through, provides equipment like pulse oximeter, oxygen emergency bottle etc....

I just returned from a Successful summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro!! We experienced RAIN 5 of the 7 days, make sure your rain gear is actually waterproof. Our guide "Safi" was excellent we ate wonderfully 3 full course meals everyday. Tips for success:
1-Work out Hard, be consistent 5-6 days a week. If you have mountains close... use them 2-Go Slow on summit day, don't be pressured to climb too fast, just get there!
3-We experienced all kinds of weather, many people were "super cold" on summit day, we used Fortress Clothing and had just underwear and two of the Fortress layers on top and were never cold!! www.fortressclothing.com Great Stuff
4-Hiking poles, a must (mainly for downhill)
5-If you feel like you aren't going to make it... repeat "I Can Do Hard Things!!"
