Do you mean the waves or the country?
The waves are very good, you will find some beach breaks but not sure if you would travel through El Salvador for beaches? If you are going there you will be hitting up some gnarly point and reef breaks. Only you know your ability there?
The locals can be a bit hectic at times. Expect kids with knives, and wandering junkies outside your hotel. La Libertad is the worst. Guys have lost rashies and leggies on their way to the beach, which puts an interesting twist on a dawn or late session. ... it doesn't happen unless your hotel is right on the beach, but then you still have to walk around the point, past the cemetery. Good luck. Its a good wave.
If that freaked you out, head south, generally locals are nice in the smaller villages. El Cuco is a friendly fishing village with a good point. about 10 years agoAnswered by whoissteveanyway
Super safe, really, it's not that bad. BE smart, but it's fine. Don't carry much cash on you, but the beach communities are great. I was wandering about San Salvador at dusk, and although this was not too smart, it wasn't as bad as Managua. over 9 years agoAnswered by Courtney
The waves there are some of the best and and all of the locals are very nice, I recently traveled there with gosurfelsalvador.com, and they made my trip great and leisurely. Though I brought my own boards (cost about 125$ to bring them on the flight), they offered rentals and lessons for beginners. almost 8 years agoAnswered by nick
I also traveled there through gosurfelsalvador.com, and it was incredibly safe (very friendly locals) it was my first time surfing and I attended a surf camp. In no time I was standing up and trying to carve (not the most successful). My hates the water so while my daughters and I where learning to surf, she took relaxing yoga classes. Everyone there was extremely nice and helpful on tourist sites and resteraunts. My wife, two daughters, and myself had a wonderful time, we are hopeing to plan another trip there soon (spring break, hopefully). We never would have had this wonderful trip with out the help of the people at surfelsalvador. Thanks!!!! almost 8 years agoAnswered by Lerenzo
